Mocassins
The lower part of this pair of moccasins is constructed from a single piece of hide sewn along the side, with added ‘hightop’ ankle wrap. The tops are decorated with red wool trade cloth and glass beads. It required well smoked, thick deer buckskins with the grain running length-wise on the moccasin. A tab was left on the heel so that the moccasin could be removed quickly. This style of construction is typical of the Columbia Plateau.
Buckskin (Odocoileus spp.), glass beads. L. 9, H 14 cm.
