Lincoln's Hands (reproduction)
1980 - 1982
By Leonard Volk
Leonard Volk came to Springfield to make casts of Lincoln’s hands for a sculpture. Mr. Lincoln had just been nominated as the Republican candidate for President and had been shaking hands so his right hand was slightly swollen. Mr. Volk suggested he grasp a stick to counteract the swelling, which Mr. Lincoln cut himself from a broom handle in the barn.
