This work depicts the tower at what is now known as Devil's Tower National Monument. Thomas Moran's pencil and watercolor field sketches and paintings captured the majesty of the Grand Canyon, the Yellowstone, and other places in the West. His paintings helped inspire Congress to establish Yellowstone National Park in 1872.
