Associated with the Hudson River School, Hill painted numerous images of the White Mountains in the East. The artist's move to California in 1861 expanded his landscape repertoire to include monumental works focusing on the Yosemite Valley. This work portrays El Capitan on the left and Bridalveil Falls on the right.
