Mojave Yucca Bloom

The Mojave yucca (Yucca schidigera) is a member of the Agaveceae (Agave) family, native to the Mojave, Chihuahuan, and Sonoran deserts. It is easily distinguished from its cousin the Joshua tree by the strings hanging from its bayonet-like leaves.

The Mojave yucca flowers in early spring around April to May after it has matured 15 years or more. Flowers are only pollinated by a single species of Yucca moth. Unlike most of this family, it does not die after blooming, propagating only by seed. An older plant may reach 10 feet tall or more with multiple branches.
