Considered one of the Southwest's premier landscape photographers, Stephen H. Willard documented scenes across the region for over 60 years. Willard’s use of composition and exposure to emphasize desert light produced fine-art quality images that few photographers of his time were able to achieve. Minerva Hamilton Hoyt used several of his images to convince Washington officials that the desert was worthy of designation as a national park unit.
