Henry Mockel
Before 1981
Henry Mockel is best known for his serigraph botanical prints. In a process similar to silk-screening, serigraphy prints use stencils applied to a screen. Each color is added separately, with some pieces requiring 45 separate printings.
The coyote melon (Curcurbita palmata) is a member of the squash/gourd family. This annual or perennial low vine has multiple branches that spread across the ground with large yellow/orange male and female flowers. Flowers open before sunrise and wilt by late morning. They develop softball shaped fruits that ripen from green stripes to a soft tan.
