Behr's Hairstreak (<em>Satyrium behrii</em>)

Behr's Hairstreak (Satyrium behrii)

Animalia, Arthropoda, Insecta, Lepidoptera

This pinned specimen was collected in the higher elevations of the western portion of the park, where antelope brush, mountain mahogany, desert ceanothus, pinyon pine, and juniper trees fill the landscape. Of the other four higher altitude ‘hairstreak’ species (Lycaenidae) previously documented in the park in the 1980s and 90s, only the Behr’s hairsteak has been seen recently.
