National Park Service Women's Uniform

In the 1960s, the National Park Service asked fashion designers to develop a standardized uniform for female employees. The resulting design was patterned on an airline hostess’ uniform, with a fitted jacket, shawl collar blouse, and pill box hat. Culottes or slacks could be substituted so long as they were made of the same material as the official skirt. It was not until the late 1970s that more unisex uniforms were officially adopted.

This uniform belonged to Susan Luckie Reilly, one of the park's first interpretive rangers.
