In 1977, Mrs. Roosevelt's only long-term home, Val-Kill, in Hyde Park, New York, became a national historic site. Val-Kill was rescued on the eve of its planned destruction, largely through the efforts of local activists.
Stone Cottage was the first building constructed at Val-Kill as a home for Marion Dickerman and Nancy Cook, and a retreat for Eleanor. Val-Kill Cottage was the renovated shop from Val-Kill Industries.
