The Spanish-tile kitchen had many modern conveniences. The ornate lamps and cabinetry were decorated with desert motifs, including the metal snake lamps over the sink. The gas stove with six burners and four ovens was fueled by rock gas, a precursor to propane. There is a modern refrigerator that made ice.

Scotty appreciated these modern conveniences and loved to show them off. He often took ice cubes out of the freezer and handed them to guests as ‘souvenirs.’
