Salt Dishes
Made by S. Kirk
Baltimore, Maryland

Description: Sheffield silver-plate salt dish with Lee crest and blue glass liner.

Fine pieces of silver were often engraved with the owner’s family crest. The Lee crest included an image of a squirrel and an acorn, representing the industrious nature of the squirrel preparing for winter by burying an acorn. This sense of preparedness was further emphasized in the Lee motto: “Ne Incautus Futuri” – “Not Unmindful of the Future.”
