Another of George Washington Parke Custis’s passions was painting. Though he was never regarded a great painter by his critics, his paintings of Revolutionary War battles and the leadership and heroism of General Washington were popular among supporters of Washington. Custis was frequently called on by associates to create new canvases to celebrate important occasions such as Washington’s birthday and St. Patrick’s Day. Four of his paintings are on exhibit at Arlington House. Wood, H 112.6, L 105.2 cm |
