Prairie Home | Rivers, Lakes, and Wetlands Home IntroductionBlue vervain is common in sedge meadows, wet to wet-mesic prairies, and fresh meadows. Blue vervain is a perennial herb up to 1.5 - 3.5' tall. The opposite stem leaves are lanced-shaped to narrowly ovate and coarsely serrated. Deep blue flowers are overlapping and packed into a number of dense spikes which form a panicle at the end of the 4-sided, erect stem. Blue verain is visited by many of our native bees and are important mid-summer nectaring sources. Blooms: July to August. Find ItBlue vervain is common in many lower, moist areas near the river and floodplain lakes.
