Summer is the busy season at Mesa Verde, when hundreds of thousands of visitors from around the world come to Mesa Verde to explore and learn from this sacred landscape. Join a ranger for a tour into a cliff dwelling, camp out in Morefield Canyon, hike into Spruce Canyon, and marvel at a sky full of stars.

Cliff Dwelling Tours

Advance tour tickets are required to visit most cliff dwellings. The 2022 Tour Season will run from May 1 through October 22. Tickets are available online 14 days in advance. For more information visit the page for Cliff Dwelling Tour Tickets. Overlooks provide good views of many cliff dwellings. Step House is the one cliff dwelling that can be visited without a ticket, during hours of operation.

Road Construction

Road construction will be active throughout the park this season. Please allow extra time to reach your destination, drive slowly, and be alert to workers and heavy equipment.

The Mesa Top Loop will close the evening of Sunday, August 7 to begin road construction and the addition of a bike lane. The closure will be in effect until work is completed.

Starting in mid-August, visitors should plan for up to 30-minute delays between mile 1.6 and 3.2 from the park entrance at US 160. Please allow extra time to reach your tour and other destinations within the park.
