Jamie Richards - Public Affairs Specialist

Youth & Young Adult Programs

Transcript

Hi, my name is Jamie Richards. And I'm a public affairs specialist and digital communications lead here at Rocky Mountain National Park. Public affairs specialist-- what does that mean? That means that I work with our colleagues all across Rocky Mountain National Park to help tell the stories of the plants, animals, and people that have a connection to this incredible place. My National Park stories started and was inspired by my Girl Scout experiences. As the young Brownie, I went camping at Black Canyon of the Gunnison, and I met a Ranger on our boat tour.

thought that her job was really cool and would it be neat to be a Ranger one day. Later, I participated in the Wider Opportunities Program. Through my wider opportunities, I have the chance to go visiting Sandy Hook, Ellis Island, the Statue of Liberty, the camping at Pictured Rocks and Sleeping Bear Dunes, to learn about US history at Gettysburg and on the National Mall. I am a proud lifetime Girl Scout and Guild Award recipient. And those experiences pave the way for my student Conservation Association internship where I became an interpretation intern at Fort Sumter national monument.

That experience opened the door to my MPS career. I've now had the pleasure of working at Joshua Tree Yosemite and now Rocky Mountain National parks. You never know what door is going to open and inspire your work story.
