Description

Zion is made up of 9 different layers of rock, or 10 with the basalt and pumice from the numerous volcanic eruptions! The age of our rocks range from as old as around 270 million years old in the Kaibab Limestone to around 165-170 million years old in the Carmel Formation Limestone to the 120,000 year old lava flows erupted at Crater Hill.
