      Transcript

Hello, I'm Peter Kasin, a ranger at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, bringing you this week's sheltered-in chantey. It's called "Ranzo Ray", used mostly as a halyard chantey for hauling, and sometimes used at the capstan. I learned this one from Dick Holdstock, who is a friend and mentor to many of us in the chantey singing community, and he, along with his singing partner Allan Macleod, have performed at many of our park's sea music events over many, many years.

We're homeward bound from China aboard of a limey liner Chorus: Ranzo, Ranzo, away, away We're gettin' out our longtail blues to waltz them gals around Chorus: To me Hilo, me Ranzo Ray

We're loaded down with curios from China and the Indias Chorus: Ranzo, Ranzo, away, away We'll soon be seeing all the gals, the gals we do adore Chorus: To me Hilo, me Ranzo Ray

We're bound from Yokohama with a load of grand pianos Chorus: Ranzo, Ranzo, away, away We're bound from Valparaiso with a load of rusty razors Chorus: To me Hilo, me Ranzo Ray

Oh, we're bound from Santianna with a load of German lager Chorus: Ranzo, Ranzo, away, away When I come gain to meet you, it's with kisses I will greet you Chorus: To me Hilo, me Ranzo Ray

We've ploughed the whole world over like a proper deepsea rover Chorus: Ranzo, Ranzo, away, away We'll soon tie up in London an' we'll all be on the ran-tan Chorus: To me Hilo, me Ranzo Ray
