Get Ready with Ranger Lora

Glacier National Park

Transcript

Hi, I'm Lora! Get ready with me for a day as a Wilderness Ranger in Belly River. Life in the back country isn't so different. First, I put on my favorite outfit, and I never forget to accessorize.

Working outside, it's important to keep up with a skincare routine. And while I'm at the creek, I stop at the fridge to get what I need for breakfast.

Like anyone, I turn on the radio to get the morning news. [Radio traffic: “Report of an aggressive grouse at the campground harassing campers.”] Before heading out I always make sure to check the weather. Then I say hi to my co-workers, and I settle in for a long day at the office.

Description

2024 marks the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act. 92% of Glacier was proposed to be formally designated wilderness in 1974. While a bill was introduced to congress, it was never enacted—meaning Glacier manages its recommended wilderness according to NPS Policy until Congress determines the status of the proposal.
