Description

The moon for the time around December has a name that is different than the others. If you look at the word giizis on all the other moons they are the same, but December has a change. It has the suffix -oons added to the end to make the word for moon a diminutive or something smaller. Manido refers to a spirit, making the translation to this moon: Little Spirit Moon. What is it about this time of year that would be smaller than the rest of the months?
