♪ Women have reared all the sons of the brave. ♪ ♪ Women have shared in the burdens they gave. ♪ ♪ Women have labored this country to save, ♪ ♪ and that's why we are wanting to vote. ♪ Good day. I wish to speak to you about something of great importance, human rights. I Lucretia Mott grew up thoroughly imbued with equality for all. My passion to fight for the equality of women occurred while pursuing my education and subsequent employment. The male teacher James Mott received £100 per year. Whereas I, Lucretia, received. £40 for the same work. Our subsequent marriage strives for equality. The question is often asked what does woman want more than she enjoys? What is she seeking to obtain? Of what rights does she deprived? What privileges are withheld from her? Woman is seeking not to be governed by laws in the making of which she has no voice. We require females to pay their fair share in the way of taxes to the support of the government, but allow them no share in the government's direction. We hold them amenable to the laws when made, but allow them no voice in making them. This language applied to males would be the exact definition of political slavery. Rights are human rights and pertain to human beings without distinction of sex. Laws should not be made for men or for women, but for mankind.
