National Public Lands Day, September 28, 2024
- Type: Gallery
On Saturday, September 28, 2024, Homestead NHP celebrated National Public Lands Day by hosting a mini bioblitz focusing on birds, plants and insects. College professors partnered with staff to explore the natural resources of the park with volunteers who helped locate and document different species of birds, plants, and insects. Birds were recorded with the eBird application, plants and insects were documented using iNaturalist. The event was a huge success! Many species were documented to be present at the park, and the event attracted many first-time visitors to the park, including several college students, a demographic less often represented. During the bird walk, 14 species of birds were located, during the plant and insect walks, 28 observations were added to iNaturalist.
