Guernsey, Wyoming, is a small town situated along the North Platte River and the Great Platte River Road, a significant historic route followed by travelers on the Oregon, California, Pony Express, and Mormon Pioneer national historic trails. Visitors have the opportunity to explore several notable trail related sites in the area, including Oregon Trail Ruts State Park, Register Cliff State Park, and Guernsey State Park, each showcasing the remnants and legacy of westward expansion.

1952: cleaning Rebar and granite. Work completed by Cantono in May. 1973-74: Rehabilitation contract led to Glenn Heffleinger, Newtown, PA for $135,769. John Lukens, MARO architect; Richard Igo, GETT Chief of Maintenance, Joseph Graziano, subcontractor. Contract includes cleaning stone and repointing using. Duraweld C bond; Repointing Dome using Saunaborns sauna elastic sealant with sauna foam backing. (turns brown later). Cleaning and replacing copper and stairwell; Sandblasting steps in stairwell; New electrical systems; Window repair; No mention of basement. Work period begun May 1973, completed June 1974. 1976: Classified Structure Field Inventory Report completed by Kathy Harrison. Draft Historic Structures report compiled for compliance reasons, but never submitted. A new handicapped access ramp to sidewalk around exterior gallery is proposed. 1978: report on discoloration of sealant from 1973 Restoration as compiled by Hank Judd, Paul Brown, and Arthur Hochman. Found that sealant probably cured at slow rate, accumulating dust, and was never cleaned with a proper cleaning solution. Recommends testing sealant with cleaning again before future restoration. (See appendix) 1986: maintenance campaign completed under GETT exhibit specialist Arthur Voorhees. Bronze tablets and statuary cleaning and waxing was performed on plaques and statues by the Nick Voles Method. (Walnut shell peeing repatination, application of MBTA, washing and hot and cold waxing). Winged Victory cleaned with paint remover, repatination, BTA, and hot and cold wax. Dome Joints repointed and caulked with silicone sealant and a matching mortar. Granite worked throughout. Monument cleaned with IG, EPAL, CA-630, D, Ionized Water, and. Stiff brushes. Asphalt sidewalk around gallery replaced with concrete. Handicapped accessible from parking lot to gallery. Monument rededicated on July 1st by Governor Thornburg and NPS Director Mott to commemorate 125th anniversary of the battle. 1997: HPTC performs work on Dome under Chris McGuigan to strip all failed caulk joints and repoint with mortar. (Handwritten note: HPTC Condition assessment project) 1998: GE TT maintenance team hires 150 foot lift to clean and wax Winged Victory statue on top of monument. Procedure includes: 1.Water Rinse. 2.Walnut shell blasting to remove wax, soft enough to retain patina (20-40 PSI) 3.water rinse. 4.Hot wax, 2 coats. 5.Final coat of cold wax.
