Watch trains climb out of the valley below and up the engineering marvel known as “The Loops” as they struggle to cross the Blue Ridge at McKinney Gap. This was the site of the original scenic mountain highway known as the Crest of the Blue Ridge Highway whose concept inspired the later creation of the Blue Ridge Parkway. It also provides views of Peppers Creek, North Cove and Dobson Knob.

The Edith Mine is comprised of a network of tunnels and shafts that were unearthed at the end of the mine life, creating many artificial trenches for flowing water and hiking trails for visitors.
Sculptured Beach

Sculptured Beach is located two miles south of Limantour Beach, which is the closest place to park. Winter rains feed two creeks which stream across the sand into the ocean creating a wet barrier for beach walkers wishing to keep their feet dry. Once at Sculptured Beach, look for its namesake rocks lying on the shoreline. The sculpted rocks are exposed at low tide, along with the organisms that cling to them, creating an exciting area to go tidepooling.
