Six years after Day's death, his daughter Marion and her husband Louis Warnes began running Dunesmobile rides out of Glen Haven. It started with a 1934 Ford which took four people out to the crest of the dunes and back. It was a thrilling 35-minute ride that took passengers to the crest of the dunes and back for 25 cents each. By the time the rides ended in 1978, there were 13 dunes wagons each carrying 14 passengers on a 12 mile, 35-minute excursion.

Glen Haven Cannery and Boat Museum

By the 1900s D.H. Day owned Glen Haven, 5,000 acres around it, 5,000 cherry and apple trees, a farm with hundreds of hogs, and a massive lumber company. Day was a visionary. He could see that the demand for lumber was falling rapidly, and he would need to diversify. So he started a canning company. The Glen Haven Canning Company processed cherries, raspberries, and peaches and shipped the finished canned goods to Great Lake cities.

Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller Mansion

Originally built in 1805 by Charles Marsh Sr., father of George Perkins Marsh, the federal-style brick house was sold to Frederick Billings in 1869. Billings renovated the home into a Queen Anne style mansion. In 1954, Billings' granddaughter, Mary French Rockefeller, inherited the home and estate with her husband, Laurance Rockefeller. In 1992, the couple donated the property to the National Park Service. Interior tours are available May-October.

Boston Store Trailhead

The Village of Boston grew up alongside a canal on the east side of the Cuyahoga River and a railroad on the west side of the river. Boston Store Trailhead provides limited mobility parking on the east side. Use it to access the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail and refreshments at Boston Store. This small trailhead does not accommodate over-sized vehicles.

On December 7, 1941, Oklahoma's port (left) side was hit by eight torpedoes at the very start of the attack. In less than twelve minutes, she rolled over until her masts touched the bottom, trapping hundreds of men inside and under the water. Four hundred twenty-nine crew members died. Of those trapped inside, only 32 could be rescued.

World War II brought several changes to what and how we eat. French, Italian, and Chinese food soon became popular in America beyond immigrant neighborhoods. Other changes were spurred by foods included in military rations and food produced using technologies developed during the war.

Hanka Homestead Museum

The Hanka Homestead was occupied by members of the Hanka family, Finnish immigrants, from 1896 until 1966. Herman Hanka settled here with his family after he was injured in a copper mining accident. The farm was originally homesteaded at a time of mass immigration from Finland to the United States. The homestead is relatively intact and unaltered from its appearance in the 1920s. This museum is an official partner of Keweenaw National Historical Park.

Bright Angel Trailhead is located just west of Bright Angel Lodge, Lookout Studio, and Kolb Studio. At 6,840 feet (2,085 m), it provides access for hikers and mules to many inner canyon destinations. From the Hermit Road Interchange shuttle bus stops, it is a short walk to the east, and up a hill, on a paved footpath to the trailhead. A prominent advocate for labor and civil rights, Rosina Corrothers Tucker played an integral role in the creation of the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters and its International Ladies Auxiliary. She served as a leader in the Auxiliary for several decades and played a role in planning the March on Washington movement in the 1940s.
