Join Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area in celebrating our very important volunteer, VIP Bob Stoltz! Bob recently received the President’s Volunteer Service Award for completing over 2000 volunteer service hours. During his 19 years of service, Bob has also volunteered at Yellowstone National Park and Saguaro National Park. He plans to continue to volunteer at Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area for his 20th year in 2025.

Sorry, but dogs are not permitted on most within Tennessee Valley, except the Coastal Trail in the section where the trail crosses the valley, connecting Rodeo Valley and Muir Beach. Dogs are permitted on the Miwok Trail headed, Northeast from the parking area. Dogs are also welcome in Oakwood Valley.

Rosalie Barrow Edge was a prominent figure in many 20th century conservation efforts. Born in 1870, Edge was a suffragist and New York socialite in the early 1900’s, before turning to the cause of conservation in 1929. Overshadowed by her male contemporaries--including Aldo Leopold, Bob Marshall, Harold Ickes, Jay “Ding” Darling--she was nonetheless instrumental in the designation or conservation of several national parks, including Olympic.

New Wildlife Species Added to Cave List

Park staff have placed wildlife cameras at the entrances to several caves to see what animals use this habitat. The cameras take a photo when they sense movement. Each photo has a date, time, and temperature stamp. During the summer of 2013, 17 taxa were recorded. Since then, wildlife cameras have continued photographing cave entrances, and additional taxa have been added to the cave list.

Florida National Scenic Trail Southern Terminus

The Florida Trail’s Southern Terminus is located here at the Oasis Visitor’s Center in Big Cypress National Preserve which encompasses 729,000 acres of subtropical terrain, about a third of which is covered with the dwarf pond cypress. Bordering the northern edge of Everglades National Park. Big Cypress is named for its great expanse, not the size of the trees.

Bob Brocklehurst Interview

Lieutenant Colonel Bob Brocklehurst was a pilot in the 343rd Fighter Group in the Aleutian Islands. He worked with Jack Chennault, son of the famous aviator Claire Chennault in the Aleutians and recounts the difficulties weather posed for flying safely. He shares many other recollections in this one-hour interview, conducted in 2019.
