Manhattan Project National Historical Park rangers and REACH Museum educators partner up to bring Junior Ranger Park Explorer programs to different neighborhood parks in Richland throughout the summer. This series of free programs engages families and children of all ages in activities that explore Richland’s nature and history at different parks.

Many of these parks were created during World War II when the Manhattan Project developed a community for its professional workers that included green spaces for people to enjoy. Other parks, like Howard Amon Park, predate the Manhattan Project, but served as an important gathering place for the community during the Manhattan Project and beyond. 

Children can earn a special junior ranger pin by attending at least two of the three programs and completing the corresponding activities in the Junior Ranger Park Explorer Passport booklet, which will be available during the programs. 

Dates & Times

These programs will be offered once a month June, July, and August from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Pacific time. Families can drop in any time during the two-hour program. Locations are at different City of Richland parks for each event. 

Details for 2024: 
Thursday, June 20 – Howard Amon Park (near the playground)
Monday, July 15 – Leslie Groves Park (near the playground) 
Wednesday, August 14 – Claybell Park

Reservations & Groups

No advanced reservations required or accepted. Groups are welcome. If your group is larger than 15, please email us at [e-mail] in advance of the program. 

Accessibility Information

City of Richland parks are typically grassy and may have uneven surfaces. 

Sign language interpreters are available for ranger programs with two weeks advance notice. This length of time and specificity is needed because we contract for this service. Please email the park at [e-mail] for more information and to request this service.
