Forest Explorations
Students have the opportunity to learn about the systems and cycles of the forest including, decomposition and succession, as well as the management practices of the park and the ideas, actions, and decisions that foster stewardship and sustainability.
  • Grades: 1-6
  • 2.5-4 hours
Andy Goldsworthy and Journaling Nature Hike
Gift students the time and space to express their creativity with inspiration from the natural world by exploring and practicing the methods and techniques of Andy Goldsworthy, as well as the opportunity to express their observations in nature during sit-spots.
  • Grades: 1-12
  • 1-4 hours
Habitat Comparisons/ Exploring Forest Ecosystems
What are the similarities and differences between a forest and a field? Between a red pine plantation and a naturally regenerated mixed hardwood forest? Between a stream and a pond? Students are able to compare and contrast different ecosystems in-person within the park with observations and data collection.
  • Grades: 2 - 6
  • 2 - 4 hours

Climate Change Fundamentals
Define and explore the causes and effects of climate change on a global and local scale through the park on a Sustainability Quest or an organized hike that encourages informed discussions and positive choices.
  • Grades: 5-12
  • 2 - 4 hours
Conservation History Hike
Take a hike with a park ranger and explore the story of conservation and stewardship on both a national and local scale. Learn about the efforts of the park’s namesakes and what each of us can do to continue their story.
  • Grades: 3-12
  • 1-4 hours
