Descendant and Interpretive Partnerships Intern

The Intern will support initiatives that advance partnerships with community organizations and living descendants of people enslaved on site in the 1700s, and the interpretation of this history.

Landscape Stewardship Corps Member

American Conservation Experience, Traditional Trades Advancement Program

The ACE members will work with the park’s lead gardener and dedicated volunteers to care for the site’s cultural landscape.

Indigenous Arts Planning Member

American Conservation Experience, Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program
June 3-November 1, 2024

The ACE member will support 2024 planning efforts for an upcoming initiative, the Indigenous Artists Fellowship Pilot Program (2025). Duties include:

  • Conducting and compiling basic research on objects of Indigenous origins in the site's museum collections
  • Assisting with a 3-day planning workshop with community collaborators
  • Synthesizing workshop recommendations
  • Collaborating with NPS staff on the creation of a Fellowship implementation plan

The member's contributions will shape the 2025 pilot Fellowship program, during which the site will fund two Indigenous artists to create and publicly showcase original work based on their engagement with the site's collections.

Digital Archive Member

American Conservation Experience, Cultural Resources Diversity Internship Program
June 3-December 20, 2024

The ACE member will gain experience in museum collections and archives management while also providing public access to the site’s historic archival and photograph collections. The ACE member's primary project will be preparing digitized material from the archival collections for upload to the site's Digital Archive Portal on NP Gallery (npgallery.nps.gov/long). This work includes:

  • Working with the archivist to establish publication priorities
  • Following established procedures to format and embed item-level metadata
  • Formatting full-text transcriptions of manuscript documents where available
  • Completing missing catalog information where needed.
