The Chesapeake Bay watershed serves as an important landscape and home for thousands of species of wildlife and vegetation. Native and migratory species rely on the region’s many forests, wetlands, rivers, and other ecosystems for food, resting spots, breeding grounds and more. Through the Chesapeake Conservation Partnership, NPS Chesapeake Gateways works to protect large natural areas and corridors sufficient to allow nature to respond to a changing climate and land development and support thriving populations of native wildlife, migratory birds, fish, and plants.
