The Chesapeake Bay watershed contains millions of acres of productive land and prime agricultural soils which support a rich heritage of working farms. However, many farmlands are close to population centers and subject to development pressure. Additionally, droughts and climate change may further impact farmlands both within the region and out.

Through the Chesapeake Conservation Partnership, NPS Chesapeake Gateways supports conserving farms and prime farmland for long-term food production and security, and to preserve the scenic quality and landscape character of rural settings. The articles below highlight some of the important work happening to make this goal a reality.
