How to get to the South Entrance Parking from the park's Visitor Center (Hale Hoʻokipa).

The South Entrance provides convenient access to the southern end of Kaloko-Honokōhau National Historical Park from Honokōhau Harbor. This entrance is the closest access point to ʻAiʻōpio Fishtrap and is an excellent option for visitors who want a shorter walk to the shoreline.

Parking and Walking Access

From Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway (HI-19), turn into Honokōhau Harbor. Take the first right after entering the harbor and continue past the Kona Sailing Club to the gravel parking area. After parking, look for the park gate on the right.

From the gate, it is approximately a 5-minute walk to ʻAiʻōpio Fishtrap.

Please park only in designated parking areas and do not block gates or roadways.

Driving from the Visitor Center (Hale Hōʻokipa)

If you are visiting the park's Visitor Center (Hale Hōʻokipa) first, the South Entrance parking area is only a short drive away.

  1. Exit the Hale Hōʻokipa parking lot and turn right onto Queen Kaʻahumanu Highway (HI-19).
  2. Continue south and take the next right into Honokōhau Harbor.
  3. Take the first right after entering the harbor.
  4. Continue past the Kona Sailing Club to the gravel parking area.
  5. Park and enter the park through the gate on the right.

The drive from the Visitor Center to the South Entrance parking area takes approximately 2–3 minutes.
