New Wayside Panel in San Juan Bautista, CA.

April 22, 2019 Posted by: Naomi Torres
Our hearty volunteers in San Juan Bautista, California have been hard at work.  On March 9, 2019, volunteers Jose Martinez and Mike Ostrowski installed a new interpretive wayside panel at the Anza Trail head that is located just outside of town.  This wayside replaced an older and more generic wayside.

There is a small but active group of volunteers who maintain the Anza Recreational Trail segment located along the closed Stagecoach Road.  When they contacted our office about the deteriorating condition of the old wayside, we agreed and began work on a replacement panel.

We took the opportunity to update the imagery and text, providing a quote from Father Pedro Font's diary on the date they passed through the area of San Juan Bautista.  Both Anza and Font's diaries provide a wonderful view of the landscapes of early California.

If your site hosts a wayside that was installed by the National Park Service and the Anza Trail and is in need of replacement, we'd like to know.  Please contact us at e-mail us.
