New Anza Trail Foundation Logo

August 23, 2024 Posted by: Beverly Lane

“Anza Trail” is in red bold block all-caps serif letters, and “Foundation” is in black sans serif sentence-case. An A is filled with blue water and red Western U.S. with the Anza Trail markedThe Anza Trail Foundation (ATF) is a non-profit organization that supports the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail (Anza Trail). The foundation raises and accepts funds for the Trail independent of the National Park Service, supports and publicizes Trail activities, and advocates for the Trail.

In 2021, as the National Park Service sought to expand the trail narrative by incorporating more Indigenous perspectives, the ATF committed to creating a new logo that would reflect this broader Trail narrative. In 2024, the ATF adopted the new logo, which was more modern in appearance and more accurately reflective of the Trail. The new logo reflects the significance of the Anza expedition both to the many Native American tribes with territories along the way and to the goals of the Spanish invaders. While developing the logo, ATF Logo Committee members discussed the importance of women and families migrating from south to north, noted the significance of the Quechan Tribe in Yuma to Anza’s successful journey, and folded in the whole Trail from Horcasitas, Mexico to the San Francisco Bay. Committee members also chose to employ brighter, more contemporary colors in the new logo. The ATF Board focuses on the Trail itself, allowing the NPS and Web de Anza websites to provide the more detailed narratives. Brett Frame worked with Foundation committee members to develop this logo.
