We're happy to announce a new way to digitally experience the Anza Trail! Our 2017 Latino Heritage Intern, Lizzet Pineda, has created a series of Story Maps about the trail. We'll be rolling them out over the next few months, sharing some popular and lesser know areas that make up the Anza Expedition.
What is a Story Map?
A Story Map is an online web application created by that let you combine authoritative maps with narrative text, images, and multimedia content to share a story. We can think of no better story than all of the stories that make up the legacy of the Anza Expedition.
The Anza Trail in Southern Arizona
Many may think of Arizona to just be a big desert, but those who have been there and learned about it can tell you different. This is especially true when you learn about a significant part of its history, that of the 1775-1776 colonizing expedition to Alta California. To help you see and learn for yourself we have created a Story Map that tells you about the Anza expedition as they crossed Southern Arizona and made their way to San Francisco. Included in this Story Map are the location of sites and trail segments you can visit today.
Experience the story map now and continue to check our maps page for more interactive maps for our digital visitors!
