The Anza Expedition traveled near King City and camped just north near present day Greenfield on the banks of the Salinas River on March 8, 1776. Father Pedro Font, who was on the Expedition described the Salinas River and its surrounding landscape in his diary.
“It carries a great deal of water and has a deep channel. Its banks on one side and the other for some distance are very thickly grown with cottonwoods and other small trees….. All the country is good and well grown with pasturage.” –Father Pedro Font, Anza Expedition Diaries, March 8, 1776.
If your organization would like to host the traveling exhibit at your site, please contact Miguel Marquez for more information at 415-623-2344 or e-mail us
