TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif.– Joshua Tree National Park staff will be performing construction on paved roads throughout the park starting on Monday, October 28. This work is expected to last through Monday, November 11 and requires temporary road closures for successful project completion and public safety.

Portions of interior park roads will be closed one at a time for up to a full day. Visitors may use alternate roads to reach their destination but should expect to encounter detours and traffic delays. Access to certain trailheads, restrooms, and other facilities may be temporarily affected.

This construction involves applying fog seal treatment to pavement, which will improve the road quality by restoring the top layer of asphalt and striping. Funded by Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act entrance fee dollars, this work will maintain the road system in the park.

Park rangers encourage visitors to recreate responsibly in their vehicles by observing posted speed limits and driving only on designated roads. Visitors can prepare for their visit by:
