Notable people associated with the Johnstown Flood

Arguably the most famous Civil War nurse, Clara Barton went to great lengths to see after the sick and wounded and to ensure that they were treated both expediently and humanely. Her work in the war led her to found the American Red Cross, an organization that would provide humanitarian relief for a wide variety of crises.

Dr. David J. Beale served at First Presbyterian Church in Johnstown and was appointed a superintendent of the city morgues after the Johnstown Flood.

H. L. Chapman was the pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Johnstown.

Chal Dick was part of the police force in Johnstown after the flood. He told stories of Hungarians robbing the dead of valuables.

Alonzo Diller was the priest at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Johnstown.
