Francis "Frank" Thompson McClintock was born in May of 1853 to Washington and Ella Thompson McClintock. Along with brothers Oliver and Walter Lowrie, he was associated with O. McClintock and Company, a mercantile house. He graduated from Yale in 1875. He married Stella Updike and their children included: Bowdin Updike McClintock; Frank Stockton McClintock; Kenneth McClintock; Madeline McClintock; and Rodman McClintock. Frank and Stella resided at 805 Amberson Avenue, Shadyside.
