Celebrate the 99th Birthday of the National Park Service

WHAT: Jefferson National Expansion Memorial hosts special activities in honor of the 99th anniversary of the founding of the National Park Service on Tuesday, August 25.


The National Park Service was created on August 25, 1916. "The 99th birthday of the National Park Service marks a historic time for our country, as we begin the year-long countdown to the National Park Service's 100th anniversary," said Rick Ziino, Interpretive Specialist, Jefferson National Expansion Memorial. "To kick off this yearlong celebration, we invite those of all ages to set out to explore, learn, and be inspired by our 407 national parks.

" On August 25, all visitors to the Gateway Arch will enjoy $3 off their adult Journey to the Top tram ride ticket, and free Arch Entry-only tickets. A Journey to the Top tram ride ticket includes entrance into the Arch facility, a showing of the award-winning documentary Monument to the Dream and a Journey to the Top tram ride. An Arch Entry-Only ticket includes entrance into the Arch facility and a showing of Monument to the Dream. Regardless of the type, tickets are required to enter the Arch and can be purchased at the Old Courthouse (11 North Fourth Street, St. Louis, MO 63102), by calling 877-982-1410 or online at http://ticketsforthearch.com. 

All day in the Gateway Arch lobby, visitors will enjoy free interactive ranger programs, as well as try on NPS uniforms and pose for photos. Kids ages 5 through 12 are invited to participate in the Junior Ranger program. Upon completion of the program's activity booklet, they'll earn a Junior Ranger badge.

ABOUT: The Gateway Arch and the Old Courthouse are part of Jefferson National Expansion Memorial, located on the riverfront in downtown St. Louis. The Gateway Arch is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm, except during the winter months, when hours are 9 am to 6 pm, from Labor Day through Memorial Day weekend. The Old Courthouse is open daily year-round from 8 am to 4:30 pm. The Gateway Arch and Old Courthouse are closed Thanksgiving, Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Most programs are FREE of charge and open to the public.
