Things To Do During Your Visit

The site is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Guided tours of the Garfield home are scheduled throughout the day. Self-guided options include the Visitor Center and grounds.

The Visitor Center includes a 20 minute site film, museum exhibits on the life of James Garfield, and a bookstore. Visitors may also enjoy two cell phone tours on the grounds.

There are no fees to enter the Visitor Center or take the guided house tour. Reservations are required for groups of 6 or more.

In the Visitor Center
  • The site movie is 18 minutes.
  • Interpretive exhibits with artifacts from the Garfields are open for viewing.
  • Passport stamps, Junior Ranger books, B.A.R.K Ranger books, and several brochures are available here.
On the Grounds
  • Walk the loop path while listening to our cell phone tours. There are two tours that can be done at your leisure.
  • Children can earn their James A. Garfield National Historic Site Junior Ranger badge! Books can be picked up at the Front Desk in the Visitor Center.
  • Do you have a dog traveling with you? They can become a James A. Garfield B.A.R.K Ranger! Books can be picked up at the Front Desk in the Visitor Center or downloaded by scanning the QR code found outside.
