Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument commemorates a watershed battle in American history: the Battle of the Little Bighorn, in 1876. The park interprets this battle, as well as westward expansion and settlement of the U.S., and its effects on the Great Plains tribes. Protected since the battle in 1876, and central to its mission, Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument’s mixed-grass, native prairie has not been domestically grazed since 1891.
