Vital Signs inventories within the parks were completed during the first phase of development of the Mojave Desert Inventory & Monitoring Network. These inventories provide baseline data to compare to the long-term monitoring data we collect. This long-term monitoring approach allows us to detect whether changes are occurring in these resources, and if so, how quickly and whether it should be a cause for park management concern.
Assessments are done for various purposes including detailing Wilderness Character in the network parks and assessments on the overall condition of park natural resources.
