In celebration of the Centennial of the National Park Service and the 80th anniversary of Homestead National Monument of America, the United States Army Field Band Brass Quintet will perform at the Homestead Education Center on June 14, 2016 at 1 p.m. Following the concert, at 2 p.m., is a United States Citizenship and Naturalization Ceremony. As the "musical ambassadors of the Army", the Army Field Band contacted the National Park Service Centennial Office recently to offer their services during the next year and a half. In support of the National Park Service Centennial, the band is interested in playing in parks and getaway communities for special events and other occasions. The band leadership expressed a true love for parks, and they'd like to help us, and the country, celebrate. Since 1998, the United States Army Field Band Brass Quintet has showcased the finest and most challenging literature in the brass quintet repertoire. This ensemble is an active participant in the Army Field Band's educational outreach program and has performed in colleges, universities, and public and private schools across the United States. Recognized for their versatility as well as their technical skill, the Army Field Band Brass Quintet combines standard quintet works, band and orchestral transcriptions, commissions, and original compositions to present one of the most diverse and entertaining chamber ensemble programs heard today. "We are delighted to host such a prestigious music group at Homestead National Monument of America, especially on the day of a naturalization ceremony. It is fitting to have the United States Army Field Band play as these people become new United States citizens," stated Superintendent Mark Engler. The monument will be open daily from8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.through Labor Day Weekend. Along with the extended summer hours, the monument will offer a wide variety of special programs and the Freeman School will be open daily 1-4 p.m. Admission is free of charge.
