Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum
Contact: Bonnie Blaford, (319) 643-7866 A new exhibit, “Fishing for Fun”, will be on display in the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site Visitor Center from March 15 through September 30, 2007. The exhibit will look at the favorite pastime of Herbert Hoover, who once wrote, “All men are equal before fish.” “Fishing for Fun” will feature artifacts from the collection of the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, including the former president’s rods, reels, flies, fishing licenses, creel bag, and other personal items, photos from his fishing trips and a short film of him fishing on few trips. Also on display will be “The History of Fly Fishing”, a traveling exhibit on loan from the American Fly Fishing Museum in Manchester, Vermont. The display will cover the history of fly fishing from 200 AD to 2000, and includes pictures, artifacts and text. The last part of the exhibit will be “Fishing in Iowa”, featuring local fish species and other information about fishing in Iowa. Herbert Hoover National Historic Site will kick off the new exhibit on March 17, 2007, with speaker David Marolf, a biologist from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. His presentation “Trout Fishing in Iowa” will discuss the state’s trout fishing program, and will include a film on the Manchester Fish Hatchery in Manchester, Iowa. The program will last from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Visitor Center and is free. Herbert Hoover National Historic Site and the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum are in West Branch, Iowa at exit 254 of I-80. Both are open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central Time. |
