Picnicking prohibited in historic Lower Town

To enhance the landscape and reduce adverse impact to historic resources in historic Lower Town, picknicking is prohibited. Note: picnicking is defined as more than posessing or consuming food. It may include activities like the spreading of blankets or ground covers, setting up tables and/or chairs another other similiar social activities. Picnicking is available at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park at a designated picnic area adjacent to the Visitor Center parking lot (171 Shoreline Drive, Harpers Ferry, WV 25425). Its location by the parking lot provides ample parking for vehicles and buses.

The picnic area includes 14 tables in a mostly shaded area. Restroom facilities are available at the Visitor Center plaza.

• Picnic tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Please remember to clean your area, including the ground area and the table, after each use.
• Remember to follow the park’s trash-free rules: please be prepared to dispose of your trash and recycling properly by carrying it out of the park when you leave.
• No alcohol or fires of any kind are allowed in the park. The cooking of food on portable grills, open fires, or other cooking devices is prohibited.
