Perdido Key Area

 

The Perdido Key area features multiple beach access crossovers, a small boat launch, day-use pavilions with restrooms, a boardwalk nature trail (closed), and a multi-use path. All facilities such as restrooms, pavilions, grills, and more, are located in the Rosamond Johnson area directly after passing through the entrance station. An entrance fee is required for this area. There is no roadside parking or RV parking throughout the area.

Visitors may continue about 1.5 miles down Johnson Beach Road to the turnaround point and to access the multi-use trail. There are three parking lots available along the road with beach access.

After the turnaround point, the barrier island continues but is only accessible by foot or by boat. Only boat-in backcountry camping is allowed on the end of the island, where the remnants of some historic structures are located. Parking is first come, first served in designated parking spots only. There is no overnight, RV or parking in the sand in this area.

Operating Hours

March 1 - October 31: 5 a.m. to 8 p.m.
November 1 - Februrary 28: 5 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Overnight parking is not permitted year-round.

Directions

From Pensacola: Take Highway 98 (Bus.) to Barrancas Avenue and continue onto Highway 292. Stay on Highway 292 until you cross the bridge to Perdido Key, as Hwy. 292 curves right, turn left onto Johnson Beach Road.

From Orange Beach/Gulf Shores: Head east on Highway 182 and cross over into Florida continuing onto Highway 292 (Perdido Key Drive). As the road begins to curve to the left away from the beach, turn right onto Johnson Beach Road.

• This area requires an entrance free. Credit card only.
• This area is subject to closure due to max capacity from April through September. Arrive early for entrance.
• This area provides an accessible beach mat for access to Johnson Beach. Ask the ranger at the entrance station for the beach wheelchair.
• Parking is only permitted in designated spaces. No RV parking is available. Roadside parking is not allowed.
• Check the weather in advance. This area is at high risk for rip currents. The beach condition flag is located at the entrance station. Lifeguard on duty Memorial to Labor Day.
• Gatherings of over 26 people require permits.
• Pavilions are available for rent in advance. The cost is $200.
• No pets allowed on the beach. Only on the roadway and multi-use path
