As of 5 pm, Saturday,. November 30, the park entrance gate on State Route 67, which provides vehicular access to the North Rim, was closed to all vehicle traffic for the winter.
Between December 1, and May 14, North Rim roads are closed to all vehicles (including snowmobiles) No visitor services are available.
As in years past, the North Rim campground will be available for winter camping and is accessible via hiking inner canyon trails from the South Rim or by hiking, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing 45 miles from Jacob Lake.
To camp at the North Rim during the winter months, visitors need a backcountry permit, which can be obtained in advance through the South Rim Backcountry Information Center.
The nearest lodging, food services, and fuel are located 45 miles north of the North Rim at Jacob Lake, AZ. Additional lodging and guest services are available in Fredonia, AZ and Kanab, UT.
All services on the North Rim are expected to re-open on May 15th, 2025 (subject to change).

Closed for the winter, the North Rim Campground, will be open from May 15 through October 15, 2025. It is located on the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park in northern Arizona. The canyon's rustic and less populated North Rim is home to abundant wildlife, hiking trails, and unparalleled views of one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World. The facility is at an elevation of 8,200 ft., with pleasant summer temperatures and frequent afternoon thunderstorms.

During the season, (May 15 through October 15) high temperatures are typically cooler than the South Rim due to increased elevation (8000 feet/2440 m). Highs typically range in the 70's (21-26°C). Overnight lows can still drop to near, or below freezing occasionally, during the season. There may still be snow on the ground when the campground opens in mid-May. Likewise, it may snow before the last reservation day in mid-October. Because of this variability, visitors should come prepared for any weather.
Family Site
Family campsites range from accommodating a small tent, to 40 foot motor homes and fifth wheels. Family sites are limited to a maximum of 2 vehicles, 6 people, 3 tents are allowed per site. (A vehicle, which is towing a trailer, pop-up, tent trailer, fifth wheel, or a motor home pulling a vehicle, is considered two vehicles.) There are no hookups available at any of the sites. Each site has a picnic table and a fire ring with a cooking grill.

Golden Age or Access passport holders pay half price. (The passport number is needed when making reservation and passport holder must be camping at the site). Hiker/Bicyclist (Communal Site)
Hiker/Bicyclist sites are for people on foot of bicycle only. These sites will not be sold to anyone with a vehicle. Each person in the hiker/bicyclist should know that this is a communal space, and they may be sharing the space. Tent pads, picnic tables, and food storage boxes may be available, depending upon capacity.
North Rim Campground is 210 driving miles (4.5 hours) north of Mather Campground on the South Rim. This facility is located at the end of State Highway 67, about 41 miles south of Jacob Lake, Arizona, 87 miles south of Kanab, Utah and 120 miles southwest of Page, Arizona. From State Highway 89A, take Highway 67 south for 30 miles to the park entrance. The campground is located about 11.5 miles from the entrance station. The turn for the campground is the second right after the North Kaibab Trailhead parking
There are picnic tables and campfire rings with cooking grills at each of the 78 campsites, as well as drinking water spigots placed throughout the campground. Coin-operated showers and laundry are available within walking distance. The Grand Canyon Lodge dining room, deli, general store, gift shop and post office are only operational from May 15 to October 15. The Grand Canyon Lodge and visitor center are one mile south of the campground. The nearest town is Jacob Lake, 41 miles away, and the closest full service grocery stores and medical facilities are in Kanab, Utah and Page, Arizona.
Regulations
• Quiet hours: 10 pm to 6 am. • Generator hours: 7–9 am and 6–8 pm. • Generators may not be used in Tent Only area. • Check in at noon; check out at 11 am. • Stays limited to 7 consecutive days and 30 days per calendar year. • Store food and trash in your vehicle or hard-sided container. Do not leave pet food outside. • Deposit trash in dumpsters near each restroom. • Do not leave trash unattended or hang trash from trees—ravens and animals will scatter it. • You are responsible for cleaning up your site. Trenching and digging is not permitted. • Fires: Limited to camp stoves and fire rings provided at each site. • Drown fires completely before leaving the site. • Do not construct rock fire rings or put ashes and charcoal in dumpsters. • Pets must be kept on a leash and under physical control at all times. • Pets are permitted on the Bridle Path only, not below rim or in buildings.
From May 15, through October 15, 2024, sites are by reservation only through www.recreation.gov. There are no walk-up sites available. The campground office is staffed from May 15th, through October 15th. Campers arriving after-hours will find their campsite assignment posted on the office kiosk located at the campground entrance and they must confirm their reservation by 8 am the next morning. The North Rim Campground will be closed for the winter between October 16, 2024, and May 14, 2025.

Accessibility Information
ADA Information - The North Rim Campground has 3 ADA accessible family campsites. These sites have larger parking areas, are located closer to restrooms. and have raised fire rings.
Wheelchair Access - From the 3 ADA campsites, wheelchairs can access the nearby restrooms. Restrooms have paved ramps to restroom entrances. Each restroom has an ADA compliant stall.
RV & Trailer Information - There are no hookups. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, motorhomes and trailers must remain on the pavement. Do not park in the road. Maximum combined vehicle length: 40 feet (9 m).Generator use is limited to the hours of 7:00 am to 9:00 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Generators cannot be used outside of these hours. Dump station and RV potable water-fill is available at no charge at Camper Services. No more than one vehicle with a trailer allowed per family campsite; no more than one tent in addition to a motor home or trailer are permitted.

CLOSED: 2024 SEASON OVER. At the entrance to the campground, the store offers coffee and quick breakfast items in the morning. It also has basic grocery items. Snacks, trail mixes, hiking accessories, soft and hard beverages, and souvenirs. There is a microwave to warm your food. This is the only building on Grand Canyon's North Rim that offers free Wi-Fi with just enough connectivity to check email. Open for the season between May 15 and October 15, 2025, Hours: 7 am to 9 pm
CLOSED: 2024 SEASON OVER Open for the 2025 season: May 15, through October 15, 2025. This facility has a coin-operated laundromat and shower facilities. Located on the entrance road to the North Rim Campground, between the Service Station and the General Store. One accessible and three regular shower stalls are available in sections for both women and men, on the right side of the building. During the season, open daily: 7 am to 7 pm (staffed) and 7 pm to 10 pm (unstaffed).
The only gas station inside park boundaries, on the North Rim, is located at the entrance to the campground road, near the General Store. Between October 16, and November 31, when the park is open for day use only, fuel is available by credit or debit card only. The nearest lodging, food services, and fuel - that stay open all year, is at Jacob Lake, 42.5 miles (68 km) north of the park's Service Station, or 31 miles (50 km) north of the park's entrance station.
CLOSED - SEASON OVER. Starting May 15, 2025. rangers will provide information, permits, and trip planning assistance for those wanting to take day and overnight hikes on the north side of the canyon. From the campground, turn left onto SR 67, then make the next left turn into the North Rim Administrative area, then left into the parking area in front of the Administrative Building, where the office is located. This is the only location where water is available year-round.

Is permitted in the national forest outside the park; there are restrictions, however. Winter Camping on the North Rim - When Roads Are Closed
North Rim roads are closed to vehicles between December 1st and May 15th, and no visitor services are available. During these winter months snowshoers, and cross-country skiers are permitted to use the North Rim Campground, provided a backcountry use permit has been obtained in advance. – These permits are available through the South Rim Backcountry Information Center. The closest place to park during this time is Jacob Lake. The hike through the snow from Jacob Lake to the North Rim Campground is around 45 miles. Hikers, snowshoers, and cross-country skiers will need to remain off the closed road (per Superintendent's Compendium re: safety from snowplows) and forge a path through the snow.
NOTE: The North Kaibab Trail and North Rim pipeline received significant damage from rockfall and landslides, making many areas unsafe and impassable for inner canyon hikers. In order to safely rebuild and maintain the North Kaibab Trail and repair damaged sections of pipeline, there will be a continuous trail closure in effect from April 12 through June 2, 2023. The closure area will be from Cottonwood Campground to the North Kaibab Trailhead. No hikers will be allowed to pass through this area under any circumstances.
Note about Snowmobiles: Snowmobiles are not permitted within the park.
