NPS

Stanton Creek Beach is a primitive camping area near Bullfrog at Lake Powell. It offers opportunity for shoreline vehicle/vessel-accessible primitive camping, and day use activities. Entrance and camping fees apply. By vehicle, you can drive past the entrance station on Hwy 276, then turn off to the unpaved Stanton Creek road. 4WD vehicles are recommended. By vessel you can boat right up to the beach. Depending on the lake level, your vessel may not reach the beach.

Swimming

Please be aware that there are no life guards at Lake Powell or on the Colorado River. All humans 12 years old and younger must wear a lifejacket while at a marina, on a vessel or in the waters of Lake Powell. We highly recommend keeping that lifejacket on when playing on a beach. Water Quality conditions can change at your favorite swim areas depending on high visitor use, recent storms, rising lake waters, new algal blooms, and waste from wildlife, livestock, and previous visitors coming in contact with the lake waters. Swim at your own risk.

  • Protect your skin. Limit the amount of direct sunlight you receive between 10:00 am and 4:00 pm and wear sunscreen with a protection factor of at least 15.
  • Drink plenty of water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty. Avoid drinks with alcohol or caffeine in them.
  • Protect your eyes, wear sunglasses that will absorb at least 90 percent of UV sunlight.
  • Wear foot protection such as closed toed sandals. The sand can burn your feet and glass, quagga mussel shells, and other sharp objects can cut them.
  • Never swim in or allow your pets near waters that have algal scum floating on the water which may indicate that a Harmful Algal Bloom is occurring.
  • Always wash your hands before eating, shower with soap after playing in the water, and never go in the water if you have open sores or cuts.

Hiking

While there are no hiking trails in the Stanton Creek area, feel free to explore the hills and views. The iron fences mark the boundary of where you can go. Make sure you wear good shoes and bring water.

Camping along the beach is a popular attraction of Stanton Creek. You may also keep your boat in the water next to your campsite. Read up on camping at Stanton Creek below.

Primitive Yet Nearby

Despite being close to Bullfrog UT, Stanton Creek Beach is a primitive area. You need to bring in what you need and carry it all back out. There is no potable water, no RV pumpout, and no guaranteed towing service if you get stuck in the sand. After the pavement ends, the roads get increasingly sandy the closer you get to the water. Use your best judgement when you drive out there.

Campfires are allowed in NPS-provided receptacles (fire rings and grills) and along Lake Powell's shoreline below high-water level (3,700 feet), except within developed areas. Do not leave trash in fire rings. No glass containers. Fireworks are illegal. Check for possible fire restrictions in effect due to high fire danger conditions. Such restrictions are a regular part of hot, dry summer months, but can occur any time of year.
