Bike Week

Gettysburg Bike Week takes place from July 10 to 14, 2024. All visitors should be aware that this annual event brings large numbers of motorcyclists into the Gettysburg area during this time.

We ask our visitors to please understand the following:

  • The noise level around the battlefield and Eisenhower farm increases exponentially during this time.

  • The normal calm and quiet solemnity that visitors expect will be disrupted.

  • Parking around the battlefield and Eisenhower farm may be very congested.

Saturday July 13 Program Cancellations:

  • 3:00 PM Eisenhower Home Tour at Eisenhower NHS

This video simply describes the disruption to the calm and quiet solemnity of the battlefield during the annual Gettysburg bike week. The footage was taken at the Peach Orchard at the intersection of Wheatfield and Emmitsburg Roads. Multiple motorcycles pull up to this intersection or pass by. The overwhelming noise of these motorcycles during this four day event can create a very negative environment for many park visitors.

Hundreds of motorcycles drive along the Emmitsburg Road.
Bike Week motorcycle parade proceeds north along the Emmitsburg Road through the battlefield. This event cuts the battlefield in half. There will be no way for anyone to use cross roads or cross streets during this time.

Motorcycle Parade Impacts

Held on Saturday, July 13, 2024, visitors to Gettysburg National Military Park (NMP) and Eisenhower National Historic Site (NHS) will be impacted by the motorcycle parade that travels on the Emmitsburg Road and Baltimore Street. Traffic disruptions will likely exist for 60 minutes from approximately 4:45 pm through 5:45 pm.

This event involves hundreds, or even thousands, of motorcyclists riding from the Allstar complex (a few miles south of the battlefield), north on the Emmitsburg Road into town, then north on Baltimore Street to the traffic circle in the middle of town, then back down Baltimore Street and Emmitsburg Road to the Allstar complex.

The National Park Service has no administrative authority on either of the two roads involved and this event requires numerous closures of park roads and causes major disruptions for both parks.

Scheduled Cancellations and Road Closures at Eisenhower NHS on July 13, 2024.

  • Road closures along Emmitsburg Road will make Eisenhower NHS inaccessible in the late afternoon of July 13. Accordingly, the 3 PM Eisenhower home tour is cancelled on that date.

Scheduled Road Closures at Gettysburg NMP on July 13, 2024.

  • South Confederate Avenue
  • West Confederate Avenue
  • Wheatfield Road
  • Millerstown Road
  • United States Avenue
  • North Sickles Avenue
